Proplastics' new factory complete
Zimbabwe Stock Exchange-listed paramount producer of piping material,
Proplastics, has finally completed its factory, with the plant expected to
start operating by the end of the third quarter after the completion of
pending minor electric works.The firm manufactures a variety of piping
products for usage in mining, agriculture and infrastructure development.

Pharmaceutical sector operating with huge funding deficit
ZIMBABWE's pharmaceutical industry is operating with a huge funding gap as
it has received only US$600 000 out of US$50 million needed from the Reserve
Bank since the inception of the Foreign Currency Allocation Committee early
this year. According to a second report on the state of the medicines and
drugs supply in the country's public health institutions tabled in
Parliament by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Childcare
last week, Zimbabwe owes about US$50 million to drug manufacturers outside

Government offers incentives for electric cars users
GOVERNMENT will soon announce incentives for the use of electric cars and is
preparing to set up and install the necessary infrastructure in the
country's service stations and along highways by the end of the year, a
Cabinet Minister has said. The Minister of Energy and Power Development,
Advocate Fortune Chasi, said Government is also working on introducing a
number of solar projects including putting all the country's airports under
solar power as the country moves to migrate to alterative and sustainable

MULTINATIONAL mining group, Impala Platinum, says it will continue to
maintain constructive engagement with the Government on how to tackle the
prevailing economic challenges. In a statement, the mining group, which

More needs to be done to improve ease of doing business - OPC
THE Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has called for a collaborative
approach to fast track implementation of reforms to improve the country's
business environment and attitudes to be able to compete with neighbouring
countries for fresh foreign investment. Top OPC officials acknowledged
little progress had been made to date in smoothening Zimbabwe's business
culture and environment since the reforms began in 2015, with the country
still ranked lowly on position number 155 out of a possible 190 on the World

Consortium invests US$29k in Tshongogwe Irrigation Scheme
A CONSORTIUM of non-governmental organisations under the name, Sizimisele,
has invested US$29 000 in Lupane District's Tshongogwe Irrigation Scheme to
help improve small holder farmers' productive capacity. Sizimisele is a
consortium of 11 organisations funded through the Zimbabwe Resilience
Building Fund (ZRBF), which is co-managed by the United Nations Development

'Policy should favour local direct investment'
THE private sector says it wants policies that favour the growth of local
direct investment as a sustainable model for promoting economic growth. This
emerged during a Zanu-PF-organised breakfast business meeting in Bulawayo on
Friday, which was attended by stakeholders drawn from different economic
sectors. The meeting was meant to discuss the establishment of the Economic
Empowerment Policy, which replaces the Indigenisation and Economic

NMBZ records $74,5m H1 profit before tax
NMBZ Holdings, NMB Bank's holding company, recorded a profit before tax of
$74,5 million for the half-year ended June 30, 2019, resulting in total
comprehensive income of $61,4 million. This compares with a before tax
profit of $11, 8 million and total comprehensive income of $9,1 million in

Access Finance, Zimnat seal bureaux de change deal
INSURANCE services firm, Zimnat, says it has struck a partnership deal with
bureaux de change operator, Access Finance, for provision of key services to
their clients. Under the arrangement, Zimnat customers can now obtain bureau
de change services at selected Zimnat branches across the country.

Prices Of Some Commodities Expected To Rise
Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) media and public relations
manager, Garikai Chaunza has said that prices of commodities such as
mealie-meal, flour and bread are likely to rise in direct response to the
government's increase of maize and wheat prices. Maize grain is now $1 300
per metric tonne from $726, while wheat has gone up from around $1 600 per

Energy Minister, advocate Fortunate Chasi has said that efforts to instal
solar power at all Airports were already underway. Posting on Twitter, Chasi

has seen most parts of the country going without power between 0400 hours
and 2200 hours. Zimbabwe power utility, ZESA, has attributed the shortage to

Nyaradzo weathers the storm
NYARADZO CEO Philip Mataranyika is of the firm view that contracts, whether
verbal or written, are sacred in any field. In an interview, Mataranyika
said despite the harsh economic environment, which is adversely impacting
the business, Nyaradzo will not suffer the same pain they endured during the
2008 hyperinflation period where their contributions were wiped out.
