S&P drops Zim companies
S&P Dow Jones says it will remove Zimbabwean domiciled companies from its
indices next Monday due to local inflationary pressures and forex shortages,
a development that will constrain the country's ability to attract foreign
investment. The platform is widely used by investors to benchmark
performance of listed companies across different markets. Inflationary
pressures in the southern African economy have seen investors put their
money in stocks to hedge against potential loss in value. Year-to-date, the
industrial index gained 52,42% to 501,62 points. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/>

Govt receives $1m AfDB grant to fight cholera
THE African Development Bank (AfDB) yesterday extended a $1 million grant to
Zimbabwe which will be used to combat cholera. Country manager Damoni
Kitabire said although the regional bank would not extend any loans to
Zimbabwe until the southern African country settled its arrears, it had
committed grants in excess of $200 million to finance various projects in
energy, health, water and agriculture. In September, Zimbabwe was hit by a
severe cholera outbreak, which saw 2 000 cases being reported per week, and
left over 50 people dead. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >

'Small grains seed stock adequate'
The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has assured farmers in drought prone areas
of adequate stocks of small grain seed under the Presidential Well Wishers
Input Scheme. Small grains, such as sorghum, millet and rapoko thrive in dry
regions. Due to their drought resistant nature, farmers especially in dry
regions have been encouraged to grow these varieties to promote food
security and nutrition in the face of climate change effects. "The GMB would
like to advise farmers in drought prone areas that it has sorghum and pearl
millet seed (small grains) in stock at depots under the Presidential
Well-Wishers Inputs Scheme. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >
Livestock industry: Beacon of food production
The livestock industry, viewed as a beacon of national food production, has
increased meat, egg and milk production during the first nine months of
2018. Record growth was achieved in the country's largest meat industry -
broiler production - while the egg industry is rebounding from last year's
outbreak of Avian Influenza (AI). This production momentum and market demand
may not be sustained into 2019 as projected by the latest Livestock Zimbabwe
Market Update, citing foreign currency shortages, increased costs of
production and high regulatory costs of doing business undermining global
competitiveness of the domestic livestock production sector.

GMAZ battles speculative pricing
HARARE - The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe yesterday announced
maximum wholesale and retail prices for maize, rice and salt produced by its
members across the country, which are aimed at curbing the recent
speculative pricing regime. This comes as the country is witnessing
astronomical increases of basic commodity prices which have been fuelled by
parallel black market rates and worsened by panic buying during the past few
weeks. Subsequently, the miller's representative body has listed three
products, which include mealie-meal, rice and salt under their price
recommendations. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >

Hwange creditors oppose Government intervention
HARARE - Creditors owed millions of dollars by struggling coal miner, Hwange
Colliery Company Limited (Hwange) said on Saturday they are against the
government's move to place the firm under reconstruction. Hwange was
already under a High Court sanctioned revival programme, technically
referred to as a "scheme of arrangement" before government, through the
Ministry of Justice, took the decision to put the company under
administration at the end of October. The move firmly placed government in
total control of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed firm in which it is a
major shareholder. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >
