Outcry as retailers 'collude to hike price of school uniforms'
THERE is an outcry after retailers allegedly colluded to increase the prices
of school uniforms by more than 200 percent ahead of opening of schools on
January 8 next year. Parents have said the prevailing economic circumstances
and the pricey uniforms have made education expenses unbearable. Coupled
with the inflated prices of uniforms is the high cost of living,
outrageously high school fees and other necessities that have to be paid
for. School shoes now cost $60 up from $20, a satchel $62 up from $21, shirt
and short $65 up from $20, dress $45 up from $15, blazer $150 up from $50,
skirt and blouse $80 up from $30, hat $30 up from $11, socks $6 up from $2
and tie $18 up from $9. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >

Masvingo tourist sites get 10 000 visits
AT least 10 000 local and foreign visitors thronged the Great Zimbabwe
monuments, Lake Mutirikwi and Tugwi-Mukosi Dam in Masvingo province on
Christmas Day. The tourist sites were a hive of activity as visitors from
Zimbabwe and beyond the country's borders visited the province to enjoy
Zimbabwe's hospitality. National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ)
provincial director, Mr Lovemore Mandima, attributed the increased volumes
of tourist arrivals to many locals' appreciation of domestic tourism. "The
Christmas day saw more than 5 000 paying visitors touring our monuments,"
said Mr Mandima. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >

Private schools hike fees, demand forex
MOST private schools have hiked fees citing increases in running costs,
while others are demanding US dollars for levies. In a circular to parents,
Wise Owl Learning Centre said it had been forced to increase fees due to the
prevailing economic situation. "The impact of the economy has affected all
of us in various ways as a nation. No sector, including the education
sector, has been left out," reads the circular to parents, warning of the
increases in fees. "With this in mind, the Board of Trustees, together with
the school administrators, would like to assure you that a lot of prayer,
thought and deliberation has been put in to find the best way forward to
ensure the school does not lower standards of its products and services,"
reads part of the circular. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/> Read more >

FIVE enterprising youths have created a platform for Small and Medium
Enterprises (SMEs) to advertise their products, particularly when running
promotions, to increase brand awareness and boost sales. Dubbed "Vhuka", the
platform was developed to afford SMEs an opportunity to sell their products
to many potential customers at a lower cost. Well-heeled companies such as
Econet, OK Zimbabwe and Pick 'n Pay, advertise their promotions in the
mainstream media, which most SMEs cannot afford. <http://www.bulls.co.zw/>

Farmers call for cloud seeding
Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers' Union (ZCFU) has called on Government to
consider cloud seeding in the wake of the unreliable rainfall patterns
characterising 2018 /19 agricultural season. Some parts of the country have
experienced prolonged dry spells of close to three weeks, a situation that
has affected germination of crops and pastures for those in livestock
business. Cloud seeding is the process of spreading either dry ice, or more
commonly, silver iodide aerosols, into the upper part of clouds to try to
stimulate the precipitation process and form rain.
