Afreximbank disburses $8bn from intra-African trade facility

THE African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) has disbursed over a third of
the $25 billion facility meant to accelerate intra-African trade, the bank's
president and chairman Benedict Oramah has said. Oramah told journalists
after the official opening of the bank's 25th annual meetings yesterday that
the $25 million facility was a strategy embarked by the bank and hinges on
'create, connect and deliver' running from 2017 to 2021.

TELONE Centre for Learning (TCFL) will host a mobile financial services
hackathon for State-owned mobile operator NetOne in collaboration with South
Africa's FinMark Trust to promote mobile financial services. Finmark Trust
said the hackathon was really designed for young innovators interested in
financial inclusion.

HIT best to understand blockchain tech: ZICT

THE Zimbabwe Information and Communication Technology Division (ZICT) says
Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has some of the best brains in
understanding blockchain technology used to develop cryptocurrency, urging
the central bank to consult with the university. In a statement yesterday,
ZICT said cryptocurrency is an extremely enthusiastic idea that the Reserve
Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) does not seem to understand.

Companies comply with food fortification

Local companies have complied with the food fortification programme
introduced last year to prevent micro-nutrient deficiency disorders among
consumers, a government consultant has said. In an interview with NewsDay on
the side lines of a food fortification workshop held in Bulawayo on Tuesday,
Health and Child Care ministry nutrition advocacy and communication
consultant Dexter Chagwena said a lot of companies were now complying with
the food fortification regulations.

TelOne faces $23m bill from dismissed staffers   

EIGHTY-two dismissed former employees of fixed telecoms operator, TelOne,
are demanding compensation amounting to $23 million as dues accumulated from
salaries arrears, unpaid benefits and retrenchment packages following their
alleged "unofficial and unlawful" dismissal 14 years ago.  The dismissed
workers claim that due process of employment termination was not followed,
hence they remained the telecoms operator's employees over the period they
were demanding payment.

Govt moves to recapitalise CSC   

Government has moved closer to concluding a deal to recapitalise the Cold
Storage Company (CSC) with potential investors, Lands, Agriculture and
Irrigation Development Minister Perrance Shiri has said. The giant beef
processor is among the 12 state enterprises earmarked for speedy recovery
under the parastatal reform initiative being implemented by the new
political dispensation.

fastjet begins Hre-Byo flights   

Budget airline, fastjet, is set to commence daily flights between Harare and
Bulawayo beginning July 20, in tandem with a Government decision to allow
local aviation firms to also ply domestic routes.  Previously, domestic
routes were a preserve for national airline, Air Zimbabwe. But operational
challenges dogging the national flag carrier and Government's general desire
to open up the skies for local aviation firms including FlyAfrica Zimbabwe,
is set to see fastjet taking up the Harare-Bulawayo route.

Govt targets bridges repair   

The new political dispensation has prioritised the maintenance and
rehabilitation of bridges throughout the country. For the period January to
May 2018, Government has consistently disbursed funds to the four Road
Authorities; the District Development Fund (DDF), Department of Roads, Urban
