Supa Mandiwanzira Says Mobile Tariffs For Data And Voice To Change, Won't
Say If They Are Going Up Or Down

The Minister of Information Communications Technology and Cyber Security,
Supa Mandiwanzira, said that mobile tariffs are going to shift in the near
future but he refused to comment on whether the tariffs would be getting

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Defends Ban On Cryptocurrencies In Court

Here is the latest chapter in the Golix vs RBZ (Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe)
saga. The RBZ filed its opposing application with the courts. Summary of how
we got here: the RBZ banned the trading of cryptocurrencies, ordered banks
to freeze Golix's accounts and then ordered Golix to cease operations. Golix
sued and got an interim relief. The case is in the courts and on Friday the
8th of June, the RBZ filed an opposition application defending its ban and
challenging the interim

Mining workers appeal for pay rise

WORKERS in the mining sector have appealed for their monthly wages to be
increased to a minimum of $500 per month, saying the current wage level had
turned them into paupers. In an interview on the sidelines of the 46th
commemorations of the Kamandama Mine Disaster which occurred in Hwange last
week, Associated Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe (Amwuz) president Tinago
Ruzive said the lowest paid employee in the mining industry was earning $260
per month, which was far below the poverty datum line.

 


 

 

 

 


 

 

Ecobank donates 25 000 gumtree seedlings to schools

ECOBANK Zimbabwe will donate 25 000 gum trees before year-end to different
schools across the country as part of its corporate social responsibility
programme, an official has said. Speaking on the sidelines of World
Environment Day celebrations running under the theme Planting today,
Protecting tomorrow last week at Umzururu Primary School in Zvimba district,
Ecobank official, Frank Karara said they were taking the project across the

'Zim companies exhibiting in South Africa'

AT least 10 companies will participate at the Source Africa Trade Show to be
held in South Africa this month, ZimTrade has said. These companies have
been drawn from different sectors such as clothing, textile and leather to
participate at Source Africa Trade, a sourcing event bringing together
suppliers, manufacturers, service providers and buyers all under one roof in

'Zim needs rebranding to attract FDI'

ZIMBABWE needs to brand itself in order to attract foreign direct investment
(FDI) as it faces stiff competition from other regional countries, an
official from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has said.
Speaking at a National Branding workshop held in Harare last week, senior
principal director in the OPC Mary Mubi said Zimbabwe was in competition

Govt erects $400K fence on BB - Byo road

THE government has started erecting a 321-kilometre-long servitude fence
worth $400 000 between Beitbridge and Bulawayo road to reduce animal-induced
road carnage. Work is already underway and villagers living along the road
which also leads to South Africa have been hired for the project.

Govt urged not to forget local business

ZIMBABWE National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) is worried about the increased
focus by government on foreign direct investment (FDI) while neglecting
local businesses that endured the tumultuous economic era of yesteryear.
Speaking at the ZNCC Midlands annual dinner and business awards ceremony
held at the Village Lodge in Gweru recently, ZNCC Midlands region
vice-president Julian Mashavakure said government must not neglect local

Housing projects overturn IDBZ loss

THE International Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) has overturned a loss-
making position to register a profit of $624 420 for the financial year
ending December 31, 2017, after being spurred on by a strong performance in
housing projects. Housing projects overturned a loss-making position from a

Exploring eco-prenuership skills for youths empowerment

THE young generations in developing countries, particularly referred to as
the youths, require proper and sustainable empowerment programmes, not for
window dressing, sugar-coating or those for grandstanding. The time to play
pseudo-empowerment games with the youths is running out and those who
empower or pretend to do so, need to have a comprehensive background
understanding of the needs of the youths, after carrying out some

Shareholder nod sought for Ziscosteel sale   

Shareholders of the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (Ziscosteel), will hold
an extraordinary general meeting on June 28, to approve a transaction that
will see the steelmaker's assets sold to Chinese investor Tian Li (Hong
Kong) Limited. Approval of the transaction will bring into effect the
revival of the country's largest steelmaker, which closed shop in 2008 after

Stanbic ploughs $164m into mining   

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has availed $164 million over the past 12 months to
fund the working capital needs of the country's mining sector. The funding
represents 71 percent of the sector's working capital requirements.
Stanbic's corporate and investment banking director Rhett Groves told guests
at the Chamber of Mines presidential gala dinner recently that their support

Edgars turnover up 37 percent   

Listed clothing retailer Edgars Stores Limited's turnover for the first
quarter to April 2018 grew 37 percent from the comparable prior year and was
10 percent above budget. After-tax profit was however 2,5 percent lower at
$1,3 million, but management said the profit was "well above budget". For
the period under review, Edgars' unit sales rose 13,9 percent over the same
