Zimbabwe's Month on Month Inflation slows down to 1.69% in February 2019

Harare-Zimbabwe's month on month inflation slowed down to 1.67% in the month
of February 2019 compared to 10.75% in the month of January 2019. 

 

Year on Year inflation rate was up at 59.39% compared to 56.90% in January
2019.

 

The February 2019 month on month Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages inflation
rate was 3.56%, dropping 3.38 percentage points on the January 2019 rate of
6.94%. 

 

The month on month non-food inflation rate stood at 0.70%, shedding 12.13
percentage points on the January 2019 rate of 12.83%. 

 

The year on year Food and Non-Alcoholic beverages inflation prone to
transitory shocks stood at 69.84% whilst the Non-food inflation rate was
54.35%.

 

The decline in month on month was against a background of non adjustment to
civil service salaries. The numbers might also be subdued on account of time
horizons. The alcoholic price increase were effected late February and may
only be captured in the month of March.

 

Furthermore, the effect of the exchange rate partial floating will also
filter through in March alongside increases in education related costs.
