Revaluations boost FML's results   

Insurance firm, First Mutual Holdings Limited profit for the six months to
June 30, 2019, rose 2 244 percent to $201,6 million compared to $8,6 million
achieved in the same period in the prior year. Operating profit fell 17
percent to $4,5 million from $5,3 million on an increase in shareholder risk
reserves, expansion projects underway and rationalisation expenses.

CZI lauds syndication of exports   

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has commended the promotion
of syndication of Zimbabwean companies to penetrate and grow export markets.
CZI president Henry Ruzvidzo said the move would create a common purpose of
penetrating into the export markets. An export syndicate is a self-organised
group of companies, corporations or entities that are formed to transact or

Zesa loses 2 200 transformers   

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority's ability to effectively supply
electricity to businesses and residents continues to be seriously hamstrung
following reports that more than 2 200 transformers were stolen from sites
dotted across the country. The power utility that has been failing to supply
power due to antiquated power generation plant and equipment at its thermal
stations and fast dwindling water levels at Kariba South, was recently saved
by Government that agreed to help it mobilise money to import electricity

New ZISCO, IDCZ boards appointed   

Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu, has appointed new boards
for Zisco and the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe (IDCZ),
respectively. The minister is yet to finalise the substantive chair for
Zisco, but renowned economist Dr Gift Mugano, will head the board on an

Stanchart Bank closes branch   

Standard Chartered Bank, one of the  country's biggest and oldest financial
institutions, has said it will  close its Gweru branch next month and
transfer the city's accounts to  Bulawayo. In a statement, the bank's Head,
Retail Banking Valeta Mthimkhulu, said  Standard Chartered Bank will close
its Gweru branch on October 1 after  realising that clients now preferred to
transact digitally instead of going to the physical bank.  The bank said the
closure of the branch was also in alignment with  global banking trends,
where the use mobile and digital banking was  becoming dominant.

Special economic zones for Bulawayo   

The Zimbabwe Special Economic Zones Authority (Zimseza) has come up with an
action plan to set the tone for the operationalisation of the Special
Economic Zones concept in Bulawayo. Bulawayo is one of the areas that
Government designated for the implementation of Special Economic Zones
(SEZs) initiative with a view to restore the city's former glory as the

Automated training for learner drivers   

CMED (Private) Limited has unveiled a mobile driver training simulator,
modern technology aimed at enhancing efficiency for learner drivers through
computerised and objective assessment, expected to match the Vehicle
Inspectorate  Department (VID)'s electronic testing for provisional driver's
licences. The system, to be introduced as a syllabus in driver training,
applies an advanced "virtual instructor" and student assessment system which
generates a detailed assessment report about the performance of a learner

Zimbabwe's Power Generation Falls To 520 MW

Power generation at the country's power plants was depressed as of September
5, 2019. According to the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), Munyati and Bulawayo
Thermal Power Stations were producing 0 MW between them while generation at

Zim Engages Tanzania & Zambia For Transportation Of 17 000t Of Maize From
Tanzania

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has together with Tanzania-Zambia
Railway Authority (TAZARA) and Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) on Wednesday
signed a joint agreement with the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) to transport
17000 tonnes of maize from Makambako and Vwawa in southern Tanzania to
Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. TAZARA will relay the grain to ZRL at New Kapiri
Mposhi in Zambia before it is passed to NRZ at Livingstone for final

Government plans to gazette health fees   

THE Government has warned private doctors, medical aid societies and
pharmacies that it might soon be forced to gazette health fees to protect
suffering patients from errant practitioners charging in US dollars. THE
Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo yesterday told health care
funders that many people who still earn salaries in RTGS$ have suffered at
the hands of health care providers who present unaffordable options for

Buyers land in Vic Falls for Sanganai Exposition   

A GROUP of eight South Korean buyers landed in Victoria Falls yesterday
where they will be joined by others from various countries for a pre-tour of
the country's prime resort town. More than 170 buyers from across the world
are expected to attend the 12th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism
Expo, which runs from September 12 to 14 at the Zimbabwe International
Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo. As a tradition, buyers tour the country
including resorts to scan around potential business opportunities.

WEF a world of opportunity for Zimbabwe   

President Mnangagwa is attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa
that is underway in Cape Town, South Africa.This comes after he attended his
first WEF in Davos, Switzerland, in January last year and his second
appearance at the same forum in the same city in January this year. The WEF
is a very important stage at which heads of state and government and the

CAPE TOWN - President Emmerson Mnangagwa held a meeting with top business
executives attending the African edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF)
on Wednesday and urged them to invest in "a Zimbabwe, which guarantees
safety of investments". He told the executives at a Zimbabwe country dinner
that the government was carrying out deep economic reforms, both legislative
and structural, to remove hurdles to economic growth and investment, and

IDBZ approves $269m worth of projects

The infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) says it approved $269
million worth of projects under the Public Sector Investment Programme
during the half year to June 30, 2019. Inadequate economic and social
infrastructure have remained an impediment to the country's growth
aspirations as industry fails to reach full capacity on infrastructure gaps.
