Zim chrome giants in joint venture   

Zimbabwe's ferrochrome producers Zimasco and Afrochine Smelting, have
entered into a joint venture to build four chrome smelters in Mberengwa in
the Midlands Province, spokesperson for Zimasco, Ms Clara Sadomba said
yesterday. Zimasco, a unit of Chinese-owned Sinosteel and Afrochine are the
country's largest ferrochrome producers with combined operational capacity

Muzarabani oil: Invictus on ground   

AUSTRALIA Stock Exchange-listed miner, Invictus Energy, has finished desktop
exploratory work for oil and gas discovery at its Muzarabani prospective
area and is now moving on the ground with the first drilling expected in the
first quarter of next year. The prospect had its potential upgraded early
July when the miner announced that results of independent estimates showed
that there is a strong case for up to 1,3 billion barrels of oil equivalent
(BOE) or alternatively an estimated resource of 206 billion litres of oil in

Solar power for airports   

GOVERNMENT will soon rollout a programme to install solar power at all the
country's airports as part of efforts to reduce pressure on the national
grid and also to ensure continued power supply in the face of decreased
generation. Zimbabwe is grappling with subdued power generation largely due
to decreased water levels in Kariba dam as well as the failure of thermal
power stations to perform at optimum level due to their old state.

ECB cuts deposit rate, reintroduces quantitative easing   

The European Central Bank yesterday approved fresh stimulus measures to prop
up the ailing euro zone economy. The ECB decided to push rates deeper into
negative territory and also re-launched an extended bond purchase scheme. It
also decided to keep its main refinancing interest rate at 0 percent and its

IMF team in Zim to review progress   

A two-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is in the
country to review progress under the Staff Monitored Programme. The
delegation, comprising of Gene Leon Division Chief of the IMF African
Department and David Robinson who is the Deputy Director paid a courtesy

10% tourism growth projected   

ZIMBABWE's tourist arrivals are projected to grow by a minimum of 10 percent
by the end of 2019 from 2,6 million arrivals recorded last year, according
to the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ). In an interview after a
Press conference organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) on the
sidelines of the ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism  Expo in Bulawayo
yesterday, TBCZ chief executive officer, Mr Paul Matamisa, said the
Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo has been instrumental in spurring tourist  arrivals
growth in Zimbabwe among other promotional activities.

Residents call for cash issuance probe   

BULAWAYO residents have called on Government to investigate the issuance of
cash through banks as they complained that more notes were increasingly
being traded on the parallel market. Contributing during a Money Laundering
and Proceeds of Crime Bill consultative meeting organised by the
Parliamentary Portfolio Committee of Finance yesterday, the residents said
they were unhappy that new bank notes were being issued through illegal
money changers, popularly known as osiphatheleni, at a time when banks and

New broiler breed introduced   

AGRIBUSINESS firm, Hamara Group, has introduced a new drought and disease
resistant "Sasso bird" that they say will improve poultry output in Zimbabwe
when fully implemented. Group head of marketing and public relations, Mr
Clarence Mutangara, said the new Hamara Sasso bird was a dual-purpose bird
that gives the farmer both meat and egg production.

Expo boosts Bulawayo hotels   

THE ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo has yielded
an increase in hotel occupancy with major facilities saying they are fully
booked for the period. Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) regional
representative for Matabeleland, Mr Innocent Kufa, who is also the general
manager of Bulawayo Rainbow Tourism Group, said prior to the tourism fair,
the occupancy rate for city hotels ranged between 50 and 60 percent.
