India added 26,624 coronavirus infections in 24 hours, taking its tally to 1,00,31,223, according to the Health Ministry data. The number of fresh infections is 5.8 per cent higher than Saturday, when the country registered 25,152 cases to take the total infections to over one crore mark.
In the 24-hour period, India, reported 341 deaths linked to the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,45,447.
Thirty-three states and union territories have less than 20,000 active cases, according to the government. Kerala and Maharashtra together account for 40 per cent of total COVID-19 active cases," the Health Ministry tweeted.
India is in the number one position in terms of the number of recovered coronavirus cases, followed by Brazil, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
19 Coronavirus Deaths Reported In UP, Count At 8,196
With 19 fresh coronavirus-related deaths reported in Uttar Pradesh, the death count due to the viral disease in the state has risen to 8,196 on Sunday, official data showed, reported news agency PTI. The total COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 5,74,631 with as many as 1,247 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours. Of the 19 fresh deaths, four deaths were reported from state capital Lucknow, three from Gorakhpur and two from Kanpur, the state government said in a statement.
Sabarimala To Open For 5,000 Pilgrims A Day, COVID-Negative Certificate After RT-PCR Test Must
Devotees will be allowed to visit Sabarimala hill shrine from December 27 only after producing a COVID-negative certificate following an RT-PCR test, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) said, even as the Kerala High Court granted permission to allow 5,000 pilgrims to visit the temple from Sunday, reported news agency ANI. TDB president N Vasu said devotees must carry a COVID-19-negative certificate after conducting an RT-PCR test not more than 48 hours prior to their visit to the temple.
12 Test COVID Positive In Mizoram; Tally Rises To 4,122
Twelve tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 4,122, an official said on Sunday, reported news agency PTI. The number of active cases in the state now stands at 158, while 3,957 patients have recovered from the disease. Seven people have died due to the infection in the state so far.
Masks To Be Mandatory For Next 6 Months In Maharashtra, Says Uddhav Thackeray
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said wearing masks will be mandatory for the next six months in the state, reported news agency PTI. Addressing the people of the state on social media, Mr Thackeray said experts are in favour of imposing night curfew or another lockdown, but he is not in favour of these steps. He also appealed to the people to be careful during the New Year celebrations.

With No Clarity On Board Exam Dates, Schools Conduct Pre-Board Tests Online
With no clarity yet on dates of board examinations next year, several schools are already conducting pre-board exams online to ensure that students are fully prepared in time, reported news agency PTI. While the Ministry of Education is yet to take a call on the dates of board exams for class 10 and 12, it has already clarified that the exams will be conducted in pen and paper. Schools in Delhi are restricting to online exams while those in Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida are also planning exams in blended mode as per easing of restrictions by respective state governments.
Odisha Reports 372 New COVID-19 Cases, Four More Deaths
Odisha's COVID-19 caseload on Sunday rose to 3,26,233 after 372 more people tested positive for the infection, while four fresh deaths raised the death count to 1,836, a health department official said.
Odisha currently has 3,035 active cases, whilev 3,21,309 patients have so far recovered.
Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died due to comorbidities. The positivity rate in the coastal state stands at 4.94 per cent.
18 New Cases Take Arunachal Pradesh's Coronavirus Tally To 16,629
18 new cases were reported in Arunachal Pradesh, taking its coronavirus tally to 16,629. The active case count stands at 241, PTI reported quoting a Health Department official.
Telangana's Active COVID-19 Cases Dip To 6,888
Active COVID-19 cases continued to dip in Telangana with over 6,800 people under treatment for the disease, while the infection count rose to 2.81 lakh with 592 more testing positive, the state government said on Sunday.
Three fresh deaths pushed the fatalities to 1,513 on Saturday, its latest COVID-19 bulletin said.
The active cases, which fell below the 7,000 mark on Friday, further declined to 6,888.

COVID-19 Tally In Andaman And Nicobar Rises To 4,875 With Six New Cases
Six more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, raising the tally in the Union Territory to 4,875, a health department official said on Sunday.
The death count remained at 61 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported, he said.
Seven people were cured of the disease on Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 4,719, the official said.
The Union Territory now has 95 active cases.

All Celebrations Banned In Pubs, Restaurants On New Year's Eve In Bengaluru
All celebrations in pubs, restaurants and on the streets are banned in Bengaluru on New Year's Eve in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, BBMP Commissioner Manjunatha Prasad said.
"All public celebrations are banned on streets like MG Road, Church Street, Brigade Road and Koramangala in Bengaluru where people in large numbers gather on New Year's Eve. Celebrations at pubs and restaurants have also been banned," Prasad said.
Ahead of Christmas, the government has asked the supervisors and organisers of the churches to maintain social distancing and avoid mass gatherings as well.

British PM orders new curbs to slow more infectious virus strain
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday announced a "stay at home" order for London and southeast England to slow a new coronavirus strain that is significantly more infectious.
Early data suggests the new strain could be "up to 70 percent more transmissible," Johnson said at a televised briefing.
He ordered new restrictions for London and south-eastern England from Sunday, saying that "residents in those areas must stay at home" at least until December 30.
The measures will mean around a third of England's population cannot travel or meet other households for Christmas.
The aim of the new rules is to slow the spread of the new strain to areas where it is not yet prevalent.
Madhya Pradesh's Indore reports 395 new COVID-19 cases
As many as 395 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Indore on Saturday.
The overall cases in the district have now reached 51,563, while the cumulative count climbed to 837, according to Chief Medical and Health Officer Poornima Gadaria.
So far 46,579 have been discharged after recovering from the disease.
Meanwhile, with 25,153 new infections in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 1-crore mark, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

Thailand confirms 576 new coronavirus infections
Thailand confirmed 576 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, including 516 migrant worker cases announced the day before, according to a health ministry statement. The new cases include 19 locally transmitted cases in Bangkok and in the southwestern province of Samut Sakhon, where the 516 inflections were also found. All of them were linked to a shrimp market in Samut Sakhon, the statement said. There were also 41 imported cases.
Thailand to test over 10,000 people after record COVID-19 surge
Thailand plans to test more than 10,000 people after a record daily surge in coronavirus cases to over 500, most of which were among migrant workers linked to a shrimp market near the capital, an official said on Sunday. By Wednesday the authorities aim to conduct 10,300 tests in the southwest province of Samut Sakhon, where the outbreak appeared, and such nearby provinces as Samut Songkhram and Nakhon Pathom, Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for Thailand's COVID-19 taskforce, told a news conference. "Active case findings will continue in several provinces, actually across the country," he said. Thailand, the first country outside China to report coronavirus infections, has largely kept the outbreak under control with 4,907 cases and 60 deaths.
Officials report 744 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District reported 100,822 total COVID-19 cases and 1,442 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 744 new cases as of Saturday. No new deaths were reported today.
The city’s total case count also includes 51 backlogged electronic lab reports, according to Metro Health.

Michigan coronavirus cases up to 458,852; Death toll now at 11,461
The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 458,852 as of Saturday, including 11,461 deaths, state officials report.
Saturday’s update includes 3,896 new cases and 187 additional deaths. The state reported 155 of those deaths were identified during a vital records review. On Friday, the state reported a total of 454,956 confirmed cases and 11,274 deaths.
Michigan’s 7-day average for new COVID cases declined to 4,095 as of Friday, Dec. 18. The state had a total of about 207,800 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday.
Hospitalizations started to decline in December. As of Thursday night there were 3,376 inpatients with COVID at Michigan hospitals.
According to Johns Hopkins University, 17.4 million cases have been reported across the country. More than 313,000 have died in the U.S.
Worldwide, more than 75.8 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.6 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The true numbers are certainly much higher, because of limited testing, different ways nations count the dead and deliberate under-reporting by some governments.
