Informal shops face closure
THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has issued an ultimatum to all
retailers and wholesalers to formalise their businesses with the Zimbabwe
Revenue Authority (Zimra) and other regulatory bodies or risk having their
operations closed. CRZ president Mr Denford Mutashu said the organisation
was giving retailers and wholesalers a six-month ultimatum to comply with
the country's regulatory and statutory requirements. He said the
organisation has over the years realised that a number of businesses were
avoiding or evading payment of their tax obligations, in the process denying
Government an opportunity to raise revenue. <http://techsavvy.co.zw/> Read

using the Zimasco Western Plant on a five-year lease agreement. Reports also
indicate that the company is choking in debt, a situation that has resulted
in Zesa cutting supplies to the plant. Since breaking for the festive

Money markets: All Share index closes on a positive note
GOVERNMENT will in the near future consider repossessing underutilised farm
land and allocate it to other potential beneficiaries, Lands, Agriculture,
Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri has said. Minister
Shiri indicated that Government had operationalised a wide range of schemes
that farmers could choose from to make sure that the redistributed arable
land is productively put to use for the country's greater economic benefit.
Notable among the schemes was the recently relaxed joint venture scheme
where the farmer can partner with a willing investor on agreed terms and
conditions. <http://techsavvy.co.zw/> Read more >

Climate change and tourism
THE role of the tourism industry in economic development of countries across
the world can not be over-emphasised. As a matter of fact, some countries'
economies derive most of their revenues from tourism. Over the years the
tourism industry has experienced massive growth due to global transport and
communications networks that have enhanced promotions and destination
accessibility. In the early days, long haul tourism was largely supported
by sea transportation before air transport networks became dominant while
inland routes were serviced by rail followed by road networks. While the
ease of access to the previously hard-to-reach destinations and attractions
has spurred tourism growth tremendously, it comes at a cost. The
proliferation of these mechanical means of travel also meant a great
increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. <http://techsavvy.co.zw/> Read

Weaving to prosperity through basketry projects

play a pivotal role in breaking the yoke of poverty and improving food
security at most households in rural communities in Matabeleland North, at a
time the effects of drought are being felt throughout the country. LWDT

attached to the organisation were making a living despite the economic

Community communal feedlots should be utilised to save livestock
WE continue to look at broad strategies that can be employed by the
community in general and smallholder livestock farmers in particular to try
and save their livestock from being wiped out by drought. I think it is a
good idea to dust off some unused structures and put them to good use. I am
talking about giant communal feedlots that were either barely utilised or
never utilised at all. Some communal areas like those in Mangwe District are
littered with big feedlot pens that are hardly in use for one reason or
another. There are also some giant feedlots that are lying in a state of
neglect in some irrigation schemes. These pens were constructed with a sole
purpose of saving livestock from drought. <http://techsavvy.co.zw/> Read
