Zimbabwe's Military, Chinese Firm Mining Venture On Verge Of Collapse

Zimbabwe's military is considering pulling out a joint mining venture with a
Chinese firm, Wanbao Rexco. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) and Wanbao
Rexco are partners in Global Platinum Resources (GPR), a company formed in
2004 to exploit platinum resources along the Great Dyke. Under a 2008 deal
between the government of Zimbabwe through the ZDF and Wanbao Rexco, it was
agreed that Harare would get firearms from the Chinese in exchange of

Fuel Queues To Disappear Soon - ZERA

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) said that the long fuel
queues which have resurfaced following a lull during the festive period will
disappear soon. ZERA acting chief executive officer Eddington Mazambani
attributed the re-emerging queues to high demand for fuel due to

TelOne's ZITCO To Assemble Computers And Other Gadgets Locally

TelOne in collaboration with a Chinese company Inspur, through the recently
launched Zimbabwe Technology Company ZITCO, will assemble computers,
laptops, tablets and other gadgets locally according to The Herald. The
president who was on leave but attended the launch, praised the venture and
said there is a possibility that they will be able to export some of their
computers and tablets and other gadgets in the future.

Vegetables shortage hits Bulawayo   

BULAWAYO is experiencing a shortage of vegetables due to water shortage,
Chronicle has established. This has pushed prices up while removing
vegetables from menus of most homes and restaurants.  Vendors and
supermarket shelves have gone for weeks without the popular choumolier and
rape thereby  pushing the price of cabbages up. A head of cabbage now costs

THE Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) is collaborating with GetBucks
Microfinance Bank Limited (Getbucks) to operationalise the Zimbabwe Emerging
Enterprise Market (ZEEM). According to ZBC News, a memorandum of
understanding for the implementation of the project which should see
emerging small to medium enterprises (SMEs) access the stock market, has
already been signed. This forms part of initiatives to expand the capital
markets with more products and services as well as attract more investors to

Zimbabwe needs US$16bn: AfDB   

ZIMBABWE needs an estimated US$16 billion for infrastructural development as
well as supporting governance and other institutional reforms as the country
moves towards achieving an upper middle-income economy by 2030.  This is
highlighted in the 2019 Needs Assessment Report for Zimbabwe compiled by the
African Development Bank, United Nations and World Bank.

Rehabilitation of the Harare-Beitbridge highway has started in earnest after
Government set aside $1 billion for the project. The highway expansion
project is expected to increase economic benefits for the country through

Command Agric financing succeeds   

The Command Agriculture special programme, whose financing model was
reconfigured this season to eliminate cheating and ensure loan repayment, is
working well in terms of the provision of funds by banks and the private
sector, with banks approving a wide range of contracts. Of special
importance is a core of 2 252 farmers contracted to grow maize under
irrigation on 56 043 hectares, ensuring a basic harvest of around half
Zimbabwe's requirements, regardless of the weather.

Subsidised roller meal is being diverted to the black market by buyers who
grab consignments as they reach the shop shelves. The buyers then offload
the roller meal to informal traders who often repack it into smaller bags,
