Coronavirus update: Washington state adds over 900 COVID-19 cases
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Just days after Washington state reached a grim milestone of 100,000 total COVID-19 cases, health officials reported an uptick in over 900 new cases.
The Washington Department of Health reported 919 new COVID-19 cases, and 27 additional hospitalizations. The state health department is no longer reporting deaths on the weekends. Instead reported deaths are included in Monday's total.
As of Saturday, there are 102,264 COVID-19 cases, 8,258 hospitalizations and 2,296 deaths since the pandemic began.
The IHME projects another 2,000 deaths in Washington state by the end of January. The new number is 4,292 deaths.
But the IHME said if more people mask up 1,000 lives could be saved.
Coronavirus update San Antonio : Officials report 215 new COVID-19 cases, no new virus-related deaths
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District reported 64,476 total COVID-19 cases and 1,232 total deaths in Bexar County, as of Saturday, an increase of 215 new cases.
No new deaths were reported today.
As of Friday, the 7-day moving average of cases is 177.
City officials also reported that 220 patients are hospitalized, 85 are in the intensive care unit and 41 are on ventilators. There are 14% of staffed beds available and 72% of ventilators available.
Canada reports 34 more coronavirus deaths while Ontario breaks record in new cases
·
Canada added another 2,224 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday raising the country’s total COVID-19 infections to over 213,000.
Health authorities also reported another 34 deaths from the virus, though only 13 had occurred over the past 24 hours. To date, a total of 213,739 people have been infected with the virus, while 9,922 have since succumbed to it.
A total of 179,363 patients have also recovered from the virus, while over 11 million tests have since been administered.
Saturday’s data does not paint a complete picture of the virus’ spread across the country as all territories and several provinces like Alberta, B.C. and P.E.I. do not report new case data over the weekend.

Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam said that the daily average in newly reported cases stood at 2,488 over the last week.
Between Oct. 11 and 17, an average of 74,719 people were also being tested daily with 3.1 per cent testing positive.
“The number of people experiencing severe illness continues to increase. Provincial and territorial data indicate that an average of 1,010 people with COVID-19 were being treated in Canadian hospitals each day during the most recent seven-day period, including 209 of whom were being treated in intensive care units,” read Tam’s statement.
“As hospitalizations and deaths tend to lag behind increased disease activity by one to several weeks, the concern is that we have yet to see the extent of severe impacts associated with the ongoing increase in COVID-19 disease activity.”
Quebec — the hardest hit province in the country — saw its total COVID-19 infections raised to 99,235 after adding over 1,000 new cases on Saturday.
Provincial health authorities also reported another 26 deaths, though only five of those deaths had occurred within the past 24 hours.
The province’s death toll now stands at 6,132, while 83,819 patients have since recovered from the virus.
Ontario reported a record high number of new coronavirus cases on Saturday, with 978 more infections. Saturday’s report now stands as the highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases to date, surpassing the province’s report of 939 cases on Oct. 9.
The province also added another six deaths, raising its total fatalities from the virus to 3,086. To date, Ontario has recorded over 63,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.Pandemic claims another Quebec business

“Locally, there are 348 new cases in Toronto, 170 in Peel, 141 in York Region, 89 in Ottawa and 51 in Durham,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter.
“There are 625 more resolved cases.”
Cases in Manitoba pushed past 4,000 on Saturday after health authorities announced an additional 153 cases and two new deaths. An unknown number of infections in the province are considered probable, however, while a total of 2,116 patients have recovered.
Saskatchewan added 78 new virus cases on Saturday as well, pushing its total infections to 2,669.
Several provinces in Atlantic Canada reported new cases as well, with Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia adding one, two and three new cases, respectively.
Cases of the virus have now surpassed the 42,400,000 worldwide, according to a running tally by Johns Hopkins University. Virus deaths now sit at 1,147,479 worldwide, with the U.S., India and Brazil leading in both cases and fatalities.
Saturday coronavirus update: 14 deaths and a near record of 2,268 cases in Minnesota
Minnesota nearly eclipsed its recently set record for new COVID-19 infections Saturday, with state officials reporting 2,268 confirmed cases.
That was short of the record 2,297 new infections announced on Oct. 16. It was also the 17th consecutive day with 1,000 new infections or more.
Minnesota’s total number of cases stands at 132,122 as of Saturday. The actual number of cases is likely much higher as the data only represents those who have been tested for the virus, state officials say.
The testing positivity rate of testing has also climbed in recent days, which is an indication that infections are increasing. The seven-day average positivity rate was 6.53 percent, according to data from the COVID Tracking Project. Public health officials are concerned by a rate exceeding 5 percent.
Health officials have said the uptick in cases is due to more infections spreading among people rather than increased testing showing more cases.
Deaths in Minnesota from COVID-19 have reached 2,328, with an additional 14 reported on Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
The upward trend in new infections in Minnesota has been followed by an uptick in deaths from COVID-19, with the seven-day average number of deaths at over 14.
Saturday’s reported deaths consisted of three individuals in their 90s, five in their 80s, three in their 70s, two in their 60s and one in his or her 50s. The deaths occurred in Benton, Hennepin, Martin, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Ramsey, St. Louis, Stearns, Washington and Winona counties. Nine were from long-term care or assisted-living facilities.
Of the cumulative deaths in Minnesota, 70 percent have been in long-term care facilities.
A total of 9,444 — or about 7 percent — of the overall total of those who tested positive have had to be hospitalized.
Overall, there have been 2,649,628 completed tests in the state.
Nearly 88 percent of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 are no longer in isolation. This number does not include deaths.
On Friday, the U.S. coronavirus caseload reached record heights with more than 83,000 infections reported in a single day.
The U.S. death toll, meanwhile, has grown to 223,995, according to the COVID-19 Dashboard published by Johns Hopkins University.
The total U.S. caseload reported on the site Friday was 83,757, topping the 77,362 cases reported on July 16.
The impact is being felt in every section of the country — a lockdown starting Friday at the Oglala Sioux Tribe’s reservation in South Dakota, a plea by a Florida health official for a halt to children’s birthday parties, dire warnings from Utah’s governor, and an increasingly desperate situation at a hospital in northern Idaho, which is running out of space for patients and considering airlifts to Seattle or Portland, Ore.
