Spanish bank helps Vic Falls women entrepreneurs
SCORES of Victoria Falls women informal traders and school children have
benefited from the Reserve Bank of Spains financial literacy and capacity
building programme. The Spanish apex bank sent a delegation of 50
professionals from various fields into Zimbabwe to assist locals on
financial literacy, resilience and skills development as part of measures to
mitigate against the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tobacco sales fetch US$23,3m
Zimbabwe has so far raked in US$23,3 million from the sale of 9,5 million kg
of tobacco in five days, a 152 percent improvement compared with last years
US$9,2 million from 3,9 million kg, statistics released by the Tobacco
Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) show. An estimated 90 percent of the
tobacco delivered came from the contract crop, with just 10 percent being

No prolonged power cuts during winter
Government has allayed fears of severe power cuts during winter, saying
households and businesses would not see prolonged daily outages despite
reduced imports. Electricity deficit is likely to widen after regional
utilities Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa of Mozambique and Eskom of South
Africa, indicated they will not be able to export power outside firm
contracts during winter as they also face huge demand.

2021 winter wheat target to ensure national self sufficiency
A target of 340 000 tonnes of wheat has been set for the coming winter
cropping season, the first time since commercial wheat farming started in
the 1960s. Targeted tonnage is going to meet national requirements and rule
out imports. The country requires 360 000 tonnes of wheat annually. The
largest single harvest in history was in 1990 when 325 000 tonnes were

Zim TV goes digital
ZIMBABWE will soon have free-to-air digital television services through 12
stations following the successful and historic switch-over yesterday, from
the analogue signal to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). Information,
Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa commissioned
the countrys digitisation programme under the Zimbabwe Digital Broadcasting
Migration at a landmark ceremony in Magunje, Mashonaland West.

Farmers owe Zinwa $1,9bn
Water users, principally irrigation farmers, owe the Zimbabwe National Water
Authority (ZINWA) $1,9 billion, and Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and
Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka has directed the organisation
to recover the money. Minister Masuka said failure by some consumers to pay

Industry decries high cost capital
Industry is battling to contend with high cost of finance while access to
capital is a major hurdle despite the Governments guarantees for loans
under the $18 billion economic stimulus. On May 1, 2020, President
Mnangagwa, unveiled an $18 billion economic recovery and stimulus package
aimed at reinvigorating the economy, but the bulk of it were in the form of

Levy on cheese imports to fund growth of milk herd
To fund growth of the countrys milk herd, Government is mulling a voluntary
levy on cheese and butter imports, but players in the sector want more
measures to be put in place if the milk herd is to grow. There are also
questions whether the proposed measure will make any difference in closing
the milk supply gap, which is almost equal to what is being produced.

Inconsistencies on ZSE suspended companies
Zimbabwes insurance sector regulator, the Insurance and Pensions Commission
(IPEC), says it has noted inconsistencies in pension funds valuations of
the companies that were suspended from the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE).

BAT Zim stock overpriced: Analysts
Listed cigarette manufacturer, BAT Zimbabwes current share price of circa
$800, has a 16 percent downside to reach fair levels, analysts at IH
Securities have said. BAT Zimbabwes share price is the highest on the
Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), and in recent weeks has range-bound around
$800. To be precise, the cigarette producers share price has been moving
by +/-8 percent each week, making it less volatile than about three quarters
of equities on the local bourse over the past three months.
