Kerala reports 5,397 new Covid-19 positive cases


Coronavirus live updates: Globally, over 108.2 million people have been
infected by the virus and the death toll stands at 2,369,253


Coronavirus update: India recorded  9,309 fresh Covid-19 cases of the
coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the past 24 hours. The country reported a
net reduction of 6,636 in active coronavirus cases to bring its count down
at 135,926, which is 85.89 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of
1,017,754. India's share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at
0.56 per cent (one in 179). The caseload tally stands at 10,880,603. The
country continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 17th among
worst-hit nations by active cases.

 

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,052,253),
Kerala (983,374), Karnataka (943,627), Andhra Pradesh (888,605), and Tamil
Nadu (843,209).

 

The number of healthcare and frontline workers vaccinated against Covid-19
reached 7.5 million on Thursday, the 27th day of the countrywide inoculation
programme, the Union Health Ministry said.

 

World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe,
with nearly 107.3 million infected by the deadly contagion. While 79,428,653
have recovered, 2,377,011  have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit
country with 27,793,890, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and the United
Kingdom. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the
charts, followed by France, UK, Brazil and Belgium.

 


Canada records 651 cases of coronavirus vaccine adverse reactions


Canadian health officials have observed 651 cases of adverse reactions in
patients who have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, the
country's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said on Friday,
according to PTI. "As of February 6, there have been 651 reports of adverse
events following immunization to date," Tam told reporters, adding that 99
of the cases are considered serious.

As per PTI, Tam stressed the agency monitors all adverse medical events
following immunization, and that not all of the side effects are caused by
the inoculation. Canada has administered 1,211,617 vaccine doses as of
Friday, according to the COVID19Tracker.ca project.

 

 


229 new coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, seven deaths


With 229 new Covid-19 cases and seven deaths reported on Friday,
Chhattisgarh's caseload rose to 3,08,701 and death toll reached 3,766, a
health official said, according to PTI. The number of people who have
recovered rose to 3,01,648 after 22 people were discharged from hospitals,
while 245 patients completed their home isolation during the day. The state
has 3,287 active cases now, he said.


Raipur district reported 82 new cases, taking its total count to 54,496,
including 792 deaths. Durg recorded 50 new cases and Bilaspur 12, among
other districts. Of the seven fatalities recorded during the day, two took
place on Friday, four on Thursday and one had taken place earlier, the
official said, as per PTI.

 


Over 14,800 people get Covid vaccine shots on Fri in Delhi; 2nd dose from
Sat


Over 14,800 people received COVID-19 vaccine shots in Delhi on Friday in the
fourth week of the inoculation drive, while authorities geared up for the
roll-out of the second dose of vaccination for the beneficiaries who were
given jabs in the beginning of the exercise, according to PTI. As per
doctors, the second dose is to be given to a beneficiary after a gap of 28
days.

As per PTI, a senior doctor at the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital
said, "We are all heard up for the second dose delivery tomorrow." Under the
nationwide mega vaccination drive launched on January 16, a total of 4,319
(53 per cent) health workers against a target of 8,117 were administered the
shots at 81 centres across the city on day one.


On the second scheduled day, the figures had stood at 3,598 (44 per cent of
the target). The sharp fall had come after one severe and 50 minor adverse
effect cases were reported, on the opening day of the vaccination drive. The
count on the third schedule day was much higher at 4,936 (48 per cent).

 


Covid-19 vaccine drive: 40,000 persons take shots in Maharashtra


As many as 40,000 persons, including 16,988 healthcare workers, were
administered the Covid-19 vaccine in Maharashtra on Friday, an official from
the state health department said, according to PTI. A total of 23,012
frontline workers received the first dose of the vaccine during the day, the
official said.


At least, 6,48,573 persons have been inoculated so far in the COVID-19
vaccination drive, which started on January 16, he said. Of these, 5,35,621
are healthcare workers, while 1,12,952 are frontline staff, who have
received the first dose of the vaccine, he said. After the first dose, the
second jab will be given after a gap of four weeks.

 


Govt looking into Covid-testing data fudging, guilty will be punished: Bihar
CM


After RJD MP Manoj Jha asked for a high-level inquiry into fudging of
COVID-19 testing data in Bihar, state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday
said that the state administration is looking into the matter and action
will be taken against people found guilty.

 

"I just came to know about the matter after somebody raised it in Rajya
Sabha. I had a word with the Principal Secretary of the state about it, and
he said the matter has been investigated. A total of 22 districts have
already been looked into. This was seen at one location and action is being
taken," Kumar said.

 

He said the state administration also spoke to the journalist who reported
the matter in a newspaper.

 


Kerala continues to see low Covid-19 positivity rate


Kerala on Friday saw its Covid positivity rate continue to be around 7 per
cent as 5,397 new Covid cases were recorded from 74,408 tested in the past
24 hours.

 

A statement issued here by state Health Minister K.K.Shailaja also said that
the day saw 5,332 people recover, taking the total cured to 9,25,871, while
there were 63,961 active cases.

 

There were also 18 more deaths, taking the death toll to 3,954. Across the
state, 2,41,362 people are under observation at various places which
includes 10,420 in hospitals. There were 452 hotspots in the state on
Friday.

 


India supplied 229.7 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses to global community: MEA


India has supplied a total of 229.7 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccine to the
global community so far, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

 

"As of date, we have supplied a total of 229.7 lakh doses to the global
community. Of these, 64.7 lakh doses have been supplied as a grant while 165
lakh doses have been supplied on a commercial basis," said MEA Spokesperson
Anurag Srivastava.

 

When asked which countries are expected to get the vaccine doses in the
coming days. Srivastava said that New Delhi expects to supply vaccine to
more countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific island states. He
added that the decision on these supplies will always be calibrated as per
domestic production and the requirements of the national vaccination
programme.

 

 


Andhra Pradesh reports 68 fresh coronavirus cases; tally 880,784


Andhra Pradesh reported 68 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to over
8.88 lakh, the government said on Friday. One death took the toll to 7,162.
The state also reported 106 more recoveries in 24 hours ending 9 am on
Friday, a health department bulletin said.

 

With 30,620 tests, the total number conducted so far in the state stood at
over 1.34 crore. The total confirmed positive COVID-19 cases were 8,88,760
while the recoveries stood at 880,784.
