Destined for Greatness: Your Tuesday Morning Inspiration with Gerald
Chinogara
The most important thing about a man is what he believes in the depth of his
being. This is the thing that makes him what he is, the thing that organizes
him and feeds him; the thing that keeps him going in the face of untoward
circumstances; the thing that gives him resistance and drive. In this
fast-paced world full of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity
(VUCA environment), if what propels you is not anchored on a solid
foundation you will find it quite daunting sustaining the drive without burn
out. Being driven by a big title, wealth, fame and power is not going to cut
it anymore. Yes, you may put a brave face and act as if everything is under
control but deep down you are petrified and being overwhelmed with the
ever-increasing demands of life. The truth is most of us are really
struggling to hold it all together.
The reason most of us are failing to cope is attributable to us relying on
our worldly wisdom, strength, and effort in a bid to influence tomorrow's
outcomes whilst failing to completely focus on what is expedient today. God
had to teach the children of Israel complete daily dependence on Him after
delivering them out of slavery in Egypt. While they were endlessly wandering
in the wilderness God provided food (manna) for them each day. By commanding
the Israelites to not collect any more food than they needed for one day,
God was asking them to totally rely on His merciful grace. They had to
believe a new day's supply would be sent to nourish them by God from Heaven.
Sometimes we look ahead and the mountains we face and the trials and storms
that engulf us, seem overwhelmingly impossible to manage. But then God shows
up again with a daily helping of His amazing grace and a fresh batch of
heavenly manna and says, "Trust me, we will get through this together today,
I will be back, and we will handle tomorrow then." Joseph went through
years of completely trusting God daily in what seemed an impossible
situation after being sold by his brothers into slavery, taken to a foreign
land, unfairly accused and imprisoned. In the end God used Joseph to save
Egypt, the surrounding nations, his own family and was promoted to second
highest ranking official in Egypt, an economic powerhouse of that time.
God's plans and purposes are so much bigger and greater than our own, but He
works on them a day at a time. In the parable of Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus said
if we build our houses on the sand, then when the rain comes, everything
will be washed away. But if we have built on the rock, our house will hold
up against the worst of storms. Jesus is the rock, and the house is our
life. Whatever plans we make for our future need to be prayed over and
Spirit led daily. When we hunker down on Jesus our Rock, we really are
secure. Anywhere else is behind a flimsy shower curtain. Only Him should be
in the depth of your being as He is most capable of keeping you going in the
face of untoward circumstances without burn out. Today heed the Master's
call not to be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for
itself. Today's trouble is enough for today. Trust Him to get you through
each day as He weaves a destiny beyond your wildest expectation.
