Power outages hit PPC cement sales

REGIONAL cement maker PPC expects sales volumes at its Zimbabwean unit will
drop by 14% in the full year compared to the same period last year due to
recurrent power outages and grey imports. PPC operates a clinker plant at
Colleen Bawn in Gwanda in the southern part of the country, as well as
cement-milling plants outside Bulawayo and Harare.

Small-scale miners focus on US$10m fund

THE ZIMBABWE Miners Federation (ZMF) says it is currently working on
modalities of how the US$10 million incentive released by the government
will benefit small-scale miners. Last month, Finance and Economic

fund mining expansion and increase productivity.

PPC Zimbabwe declares US$8,8 million FY dividend

SOUTH Africa-headquartered cement producer, Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC),
says operations in Zimbabwe continue to experience growth in cement demand
supported by infrastructure spending and retail demand. So solid is the
Zimbabwe unit that for the 2023 financial year, PPC received US$8,8 million
in dividends as compared to US$6,2 million realised in full year (FY) 2022.

Labour market changes freeze 477 pension funds

A COMBINATION of labour market changes including migration and closure of
some companies in recent years have trimmed down the number of active
pension funds in Zimbabwe to 504 from 981 as at December 31, 2022. According
to the Insurance and Pensions Commission (Ipec), the country has 981 pension
funds of which only 504 were active as of December last year, which means

Fast-food outlet spreads wings

Fast-food service provider, Solomon’s Café, has embarked on an expansion
drive targeting opening more branches across the country. With two branches
in Kwekwe and Willowvale in Harare, the young business is set to open two
more branches in Gutu, Masvingo province and another in Beitbridge.
Construction of the Gutu branch is at advanced stages of completion with
business earmarked for opening by end of March while the Beitbridge branch

Revolving loan scheme for smallholder farmers

A REVOLVING loan facility has been unveiled to support small-scale farmers
under the Smallholder Agriculture Cluster Project (SACP), a joint initiative
by the Government in partnership with the International Fund for Agriculture
Development (IFAD), and the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).
The revolving loan facility provides investment support to lead value chain
enterprises to enhance capacity and linkages with smallholder producers and
key market sectors. The SACP seeks to bridge the gaps in the country’s
smallholder value chain, which have been blamed for low productivity and low

Beitbridge Expo pushes for showground construction

THE Beitbridge Business Expo has unveiled plans to construct a showground in
Beitbridge in line with the town’s transformation into a medium city. A
