But they were operated as state enterprises. Born in April 1957, this young man came from a well-known family in Kano -- the Dantata family. Through his mother, he is the great-grandson of Alhassan Dantata, who was described as "the richest person in West Africa", at the time of his death in 1955. The term "richest man" has been bestowed on Aliko Dangote, not just in relation to Nigeria or even to Africa alone, but throughout "the black world".
