Destined for Greatness: Your Tuesday Morning Inspiration with Gerald
Chinogara

 

 

Sunday we celebrated and appreciated the many wonderful mothers in all our
lives who we honour every year. As tribute to all the extraordinary special
women in our lives, today I feel compelled to focus on the life of a mother
so unique, so precious, that our heavenly Father chose her to be the Mother
of His only begotten Son. She was so trusted that even though she was young,
inexperienced, and poor, she was chosen to Mother our Lord Jesus. Difficult
circumstances were her lot in life, and yet through unspeakable adversity,
such as the death threat against her son by the King, she poured herself
into her son, who became the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. 

 

It makes one wonder, what part of Jesus' determination; compassion,
patience, longsuffering, and love came from her influence on Him. There were
many unfavourable circumstances surrounding Mary's life that might have
caused a weaker, less-devoted woman to crumble. The dangerous journey to
Bethlehem in the final days of her ninth month was, at best, harsh on both
body and soul. There were phenomenal events surrounding Jesus' birth that
she did not understand and prophecies she could not interpret. But through
it all, she was unmoved, never complaining or giving voice to question the
plan of God. Instead, she pondered those things in her heart and pressed
forward, obviously raising Jesus in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

 

We assume that Jesus received all His attributes from His heavenly Father
because He is the Son of God. But He is also the Son of man, so we must not
forget to honour His mother for being used of God the Father to instil many
of those attributes. Mary the mother of Jesus is the one who pushed Jesus
into His public ministry by making Him do His first public miracle. John
2:1-11 "This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus
revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him" describes how He
wasn't prepared to turn the water into wine because He said that His time
had not yet come. Mothers are our greatest cheerleaders.

 

The mother's love and devotion for her son saw Mary at the foot of the Cross
at Calvary when her beloved son Jesus was crucified. But whatever her
thoughts that day, the important fact is that she was at the Cross and she
was in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost. She was one of the 120 who
were filled with the Holy Spirit. She staggered into the streets of
Jerusalem with the others, drunk on new wine. No doubt, the Day Star dawned
in her heart that day, and the plan that had been hidden from her for all
those years suddenly became clear. How thankful to God she must have been
that she had finally seen the plan of God, not only for herself but for all
mankind. May the Almighty God richly bless all the awesome women doing great
things for your families.
